Mission Statement

Sylvia's Kids is an organization that is dedicated to helping America's teenagers continue their studies in either a trade school, community college, or four year university once they have completed high school. Many of our inner cities are filled with some of our countries most unknown exquisite talents and minds. These gifts that are given to our young people are sometimes overlooked and not encouraged to move in a direction which not only benefits them, but benefits our country as a whole.

It is imperative that America's youth are inspired and encouraged to learn. Starting from the earliest years of preschool, children need to know that they are destined for a prominent future if they so choose. From preschool thru high school, children are forming opinions about themselves and the world around them.

The Sylvia's Kids Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of inner city youth by providing monetary scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors who will continue their studies.
These scholarships are made possible by Bel Canto Ventures, Angel Blue, and contributions from generous supporters like you.

Sylvia's Kids Foundation is recognized as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code section 509(a) and has 501(c)(3) status. Donations to Sylvia's Kids Foundation are deductible. Donors should consult their tax advisor for questions regarding deductibility. Sylvia's Kids Foundation EIN 82-2187498

Who is Sylvia?

Sylvia Blue was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the wife of the late gospel singer and pastor Sylvester Blue and the mother of 5 children. She has been an educator for 35 years teaching in many areas from math to language arts to science. Sylvia's Mom, Elizabeth Conner was also a school teacher who retired at the age of 70 years old after teaching and guiding students in their journey from high school to college for more than 40 years. Sylvia's great grandfather, John was a slave on a plantation in Mississippi. On the plantation he served as the overseer of every slave. During the day, his duties consisted of maintaining an orderly and consistently run working environment. However, in private, John taught other slaves how to read and write, making him the slaves only teacher on the plantation. Sylvia is John's Granddaughter and has been following in his footsteps, educating young people and encouraging literacy one student, one classroom at a time. The legacy of "Grandpa John" continues through the Sylvia's Kids Foundation.

2016 Recipient - Acuria Davis

The 2016 Sylvia’s Kids Foundation Award went to Acuria Davis, 18, from Canyon Springs High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Beginning her senior year with a 1.8 GPA (Grade Point Average) she was told by counselors that she would not be able to graduate from high school with her peers. Acuria worked extensively with Ms. Sylvia on language arts, science, and math. Ms. Sylvia quickly saw the desire within Acuria to graduate and go to college. After months of hard work and rigorous ambition she completely turned her senior year of high school around, graduating from Canyon Springs High School in 2016 with a 3.5 GPA. Acuria Davis will be the first member of her family to graduate with a high school diploma and attend college. With the help of scholarship money from the Sylvia’s Kids Foundation, Acuria is currently attending a trade school in Las Vegas and is well on her way to becoming a dental hygienist.

Dear Acuria,
Congratulations on your wonderful achievement.
We love you and are very proud to call you one of Sylvia’s Kids!
Keep chasing your dreams. We support you!
with admiration,
Sylvia’s Kids Foundation
